Most design problems are positioning problems in disguise. When a homepage is hard to write, it is usually because nobody has agreed on who it is for.
The checklist
Who is this for? What do they believe today? What should they believe after? What proof do we have? What is the one action? What would we never say? Who else is saying the same thing?
Answering these takes an afternoon. Skipping them costs weeks of revisions later.
